Voluntourism and Cruising  March 2016
Nancy Schretter, Together for Good's Founder, is featured in a session entitled "Shorex and the Rise of Voluntourism" at Seatrade Global 2016, the cruise industry’s premier conference. This session covers how cruise lines and others are catering to travelers' interests in combining volunteer opportunities with leisure travel and ways ports can adapt and cater to this voluntourism trend.

Castries Area:

Dunnottar School is a school for special needs children and adults ranging in age from 5 to 25. The school educates 80 special needs children between 5-16 years of age. The school is located in La Pansee area of Castries and assists children who live in the north of St. Lucia. Needs include such items as pencils, pens, paper, crayons, colored pencils, backpacks, chalk, erasers, educational puzzles, rulers, flash cards, children’s and teens books, composition books, arts & crafts supplies, children’s Tylenol, and a variety of personal hygiene items. For more information, visit the Dunnottar School's website at: dunnottar.lc. You may also contact Mrs. Carolyn Archibald, Principal of the Dunnottar School. Holy Family Children's Home is located in Ciceron, not far from Castries. The Children's Home provides a home for abandoned, abused and orphaned children from infants up to 10 years of age. Some teens are cared for as well. The Children's Home appreciates donations of new or gently used children’s summer-type clothing, vitamins, disposable diapers, children’s Tylenol, crayons, colored pencils, toys, groceries, toiletries and other supplies. Island Routes offers visitors to Castries the opportunity to go on a Reading Road Trip and help local school children through their 'Community Routes Program.' Participants will interact with children at a local school, read a story to a small group of school children ages 3-10 years of age, and help school children improve their listening and comprehension skills.
